When do stores start hiring for seasonal help for the Holidays?
I work as a substitute teacher during the day but I need another part-time job to make some extra money. When is the best time to start applying for temporary help in retail for the holiday season? I want to do it early before all the jobs go, but not so early that they think I'm looking for permit employment. I just want something for the holidays. I have about 1 1/2 year experience working in retail.

- You should call up the stores you want to work at and see when they start hiring for temporary employees. The first day for seasonal work is usually black friday, the day after Thanksgiving. You will probably need to apply about two weeks before that, so the beginning of November is the best time to start looking.
- I would start dropping off applications and resumes by the end of September. Just be sure to specify you are looking for temorary or seasonal work. The holiday rush normally starts right after Halloween, but it may help to start a bit earlier. Some companies will hire you to start at a later date.
- In the fall apply on-line to most department stores or at the kiosk Good Luck :D
- Last year I was hired by Old Navy towards the end of October, that way they could have me trained in time for black friday.
- Start applying to the stores you are interested in right now. If you don't hear from them in two weeks, call them. Some stores keep your app on file for 6-12 months, but some you have to apply every month. Many stores are looking for holiday help right now. You have plenty of retail experience. Let them know your intentions during the job interview. (Just tell them you want full or part time and just for a few months)
- start applying right after labor day.
