What is the Canadian Government law for holidays?

My parents received a notice from the federal government CIC office to write the citizenship exam. The company (the supervisor not the company itself) that my dad works for refused to give him a paid holiday. I thought that any federal government “request to appear” notices for things like jury duty, citizenship exam, etc automatically consider to me a mandatory holiday. I mean if a person is reporting to Government of Canada, the Canadian companies are obligated to give paid holiday for that day or period. Please give me some advice. I think my parents have faced discrimination in this company. I need to make sure the Government of Canada position on this before do anything. So, is a person is entitle to paid holidays for Canadian Federal Government orders? Any, information is highly appreciated.

  1. well the goverment isnt the one resposible for paying for "holidays" days off such as jury duty and citisin ship exams i do not belivbe are considered payed days off merly an excusible absence ( meaning dosnet go against you like a sick day) however i know that regular holidays to have to be payed for by either over time whne worked or stat pay. holidays such as thanks giving victoria day chrismass new years labor day family day thanks giving and canada day are our stats home country holidays are not counted even if you have a dou citizinship. you may wnat to contact the labour board becus ethis is more likely a company/buisness issue as a pose to a goverment issue.
