What is the minimum legal requirement for public holidays in the uk?

I work for a church charity and my boss says he wont give me any bank holidays off. Is there any difference in bank holidays and public holidays and are there any legal requirements in the uk for employers to give their staff public holidays off.

1. full time, if they dont give you the 8 bank holidays they gave to give u time in leau ... thats if ur full-time paid employee.
2. As far as I know, there is no legal requirement to give staff bank holidays, or what are now more usually known as public holidays off. Even on Christmas day, some people work, pubs and restaurants for example. If it was a legal requirement, then no one would work. If you work under contract, then your employers have a legal duty to provide an amount of paid holiday, but these need to be agreed between the employer and employee. Bank or Public holidays do not count.

4. off course the employers have to give you holidays at this moment it time you are entitled to 24 days a year this includes bank holidays rising to 28 days in october you are not legally bound to work bank holidays if you dont want. anybody who says different is talking out there arse. you have to be in full time employment to claim the full entitlement in full partime workers get pro rata
5. You are not entitled to bank holidays off. Under the working time regulations you are currently entitled to 24 days holidays per year - this is rising to 28 by 2010. Those 24 days may not include the bank holidays - if you have to work them then you are not entitled to extra pay or a day in lieu as long as you have the 24 days off in the year.
